Diverse SIV and HIV epitopes that bind the rhesus homolog of HLA-E, Mamu-E, have recently been identified in SIVvaccine studies using a recombinant Rhesus cytomegalovirus (RhCMV 68-1) vector, where unprecedented protection against SIV challenge was achieved.
